This week's question, in honor of Fire and Ice and Valentine's Day:
What are some of your favorite romantic movies?
Somewhere in Time: I know this movie is way old and I watched it as a very young, impressionable young girl, and I was little embarrassed about the intimate scenes as I watched it with my mom.....This is a movie about time travel. It is sweet and sad and wonderful. It features Christopher Reeve going back in time to 1912 where he falls in love with a beautiful actress played by Jane Seymour. It is a good one check it out!
When Harry Met Sally
: I love this movie. It is an opposites attract movie with an antagonistic romance that starts out as dislike, then moves into friendship and beyond. It features Meg Ryan and Billy Crystal and these two are dynamite together. I especially liked the frank and candid discussions about men and women and feelings regarding romance. According to Harry, men and women can't be friends because men just want to have sex, but Sally thinks that they can be friends. Who is right? If you have never seen the famous faking the orgasm scene, you are missing out.
Ghost
: This movie came out when I was a senior in high school and it totally melted my heart. Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze making pottery.... wow! It is so romantic and tragic at the same time. Can love extend into the afterlife? In this movie, yes! Sam will do whatever it takes to protect Molly, even if that means getting help from a phony psychic. I especially liked Whoopi Goldberg in this one. And who could forget the stirring theme of "Unchained Melody".
You've Got Mail : This is one of those sweet comedic romances that I could watch over and over again. Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan are internet friends who meet and begin exchanging emails, but they don't reveal any details about their real identities. Then their paths cross in real life, but they don't know they are online friends. They don't like each other and things get difficult. Another fun antagonistic romance that just makes me smile.
The Notebook
: I featured this on my favorite romantic couples last week, and this is one where the book is just as good as the movie. This is a story of a couple whose love is tested time and time again as it is lost and then rekindled. It is sweet, tender and oh so touching. I dare you to watch this one without crying!
The Lake House
: This is another time travel/ pen pal movie. A couple begin exchanging letters, but there is a twist. He is in the past two years and she is in the future. They are sharing the same house and dog, and the letter writing brings them closer and closer together. The end is sweet and satisfying!
Last up since this list is getting too long.....My all time favorite and I am sure many of you are groaning because I am always talking about this one on the blog....but I can't resist. It is Gone with the Wind . An all time classic... there is so much I love about this movie, the costumes, the characters, and Clark Gable and his famous line.....If you have never watched this one... do it!
Honorable Mentions:
The Last of the MohicansI know I could list a bunch more but this list could quickly get out of hand. What are some of your favorite movies? I would love some suggestions!
