Welcome to Tell Me Something Tuesday. A weekly discussion post here on Rainy Day Ramblings where I discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.
Where are some of your favorite reading spots?
Before I get to today's topic, I wanted to take a minute and thank all of you who have visited my blog daily this last month. Over the last four weeks, I have been having a hard time keeping up with the blog. We lost our dog, Bruno, at the end of June, which broke my heart, and then I had company at my house for a month. This allowed very little time for reading and blogging, so I am way behind. I am slowly working my way back into my routine, and I hope to be caught up in the next couple of weeks. I appreciate all of your patience, kind words and thoughtfulness during this time.
Now onto lighter things......
I think a reading spot is just as important as the book. If you aren't comfortable and you aren't in a place where you can focus, why bother? As a kid, I always had my nose in a book and I could read practically anywhere. Why is that? Now days, I need quiet and time to relax or my mind starts wandering. With two busy children, it is harder and harder to find those peaceful moments. So my number one reading spot is always my bed at night after everyone is tucked in. That two hours before I go to sleep is my favorite time of the day. I love to unwind by escaping into a good book. I have an adjustable bed so I can prop my feet and head up and snuggle up with one or two of my cats and read until way past my bedtime. What better way to end a day?
Next up is my family room couch. This spot also reclines a bit and has a nice place to prop up my feet. I used to be able to read here all the time while my kids napped, but these days naps are abandoned so I don't get to read as much down here. It is stocked with plenty of pillows and comfy throws, the only problem is I have to fight off kids to get to it when I do want to relax.
My third favorite spot to read is outside. In the summer and fall our backyard is a lovely spot to hang out and soak up some sun and enjoy nature. We live in a wooded area and our backyard is surrounded by tall trees and lots of wildlife. If it is a bit chilly, I can light up a fire and snuggle my toes next to the crackling flames. I only wish I could read out here year round.
Finally, this last year I have incorporated more audiobooks because with the kids growing and becoming more active, I find it hard to find time to read, so an audiobook is a good solution. I listen to them while we walk in the park, drive in the car and even while I clean house.
What about you? Where do you like to read?
Next week's question:
What book worlds would you never want to enter?
