Yes, it is still raining in the Northwest. Are you surprised? I was just looking at the rainfall totals, and they are impressive. In a normal rainfall year here in the Northwest we average 40 inches of rain give or take. Since the first of December we have gotten around 25 inches of rain. December alone was a record setting month with over sixteen inches, and January has brought us eight inches and still counting. It seems that the El Niño pattern that was supposed to hit California has trekked up North. We weren't supposed to get this much rain, according to the forecasts. Oh well, at least our drought has ended, but considering we have only six full dry days since the end of November we could use a break. At least, this week has brought us warmer weather and some sun breaks in between the rain. In fact, we are receiving a batch of rain out of the tropics and our temps were near sixty degrees. I will take the rain over the feet of snow that people are still digging out from.
What about you all, how is your winter treating you so far?
We had another small batches of sickness this week as my kids caught colds. Nothing more than coughs and the sniffles. Hoping my husband and I will stay healthy.
Let's talk about the big controversy around the blogosphere over the past week. Popular author Karen Marie Moning who writes The The Fever Series, stirred up a hornets nest of controversy with her comments regarding narrator Phil Gigante. Gigante has been accused of inappropriate sexual conduct with a fourteen year old girl. Thus, the reason for Gigante not narrating her latest book. Moning backtracked and said she would have Gigante narrate for her in the future, contradicting her other statements. Needless to say, readers are up in arms. Felicia@The Geeky Blogger's Book Blog wrote a long informative post on the whole controversy. You can read it here. I am saddened and sickened by the whole thing. I have enjoyed Moning's series, and I loved the audiobook narration by Gigante. I am hesitant now to even continue the series after all this negative backlash, and if I do, I will probably read the next book vs. listen, even though I have the upmost confidence in Luke Daniels. I had written posts this month about favorite male narrators and audibooks, and Phil Gigante was mentioned in both posts. I wrote the posts back in December way before the controversy broke. Sadly, Gigante will no longer be a narrator I reach for, and I have removed him from my posts. How do you feel about this whole thing? Will you discontinue the series because of Moning's stance? I am curious as to why Natalie Ross still isn't narrating for Moning?
