Here's the exciting topic for the week:
What were your Favorite Books for 2016?
This week is a continuation of one of my favorite end of the year traditions: The Best and Worst Lists for the Year. Last week, I put together my book disappointments for the year, which were all the books that failed to impress me or live up to expectations. Now that post is behind us, it's time to tackle my favorite post of the year: My Favorite Books of 2016. (These are all the books that earned four and a half to five star ratings).
Maze of Souls is another thrilling and creepy installment in the fantastic Ellie Jordan, Ghost Trapper Series. This is a series that continues to deliver scary ghosts, exciting story lines, ghost hunting and lots of history. I love this series, and I cannot recommend it enough. You need to give it a try.
The Impostor Queen delivers another tantalizing tale from the amazing Sarah Fine. This book has excellent world building, interesting characters, magic and plenty of action and danger, along with some exciting plot twists. I loved this one, and I am more than eager for the next book. If you have yet to read a book by Sarah Fine, please get this one!
The Dirt on Ninth Grave was a terrific, fun, comfort read that resets Charley. I enjoyed the small town setting, the cozy diner, and watching Charley and Reyes fall in love all over again. This was a quieter, more subdued book in the series, but one that was so much fun. I loved this book. I am more than eager for the next book in the series!
Every Heart a Doorway is an outstanding read. It has an interesting and eclectic cast of characters, mystery, fairy worlds, and wonderful world building. I couldn't get enough of this one, and I was sad when it ended far too soon. Luckily, there are more books in the works, and I only hope that the next book will be longer. Don't miss this one.
Marked in Flesh is another phenomenal and pivotal book in one of my all time favorite Urban Fantasy Series. This series has it all: eclectic characters, paranormal, terrific world building, action, danger, and a touch of romance. I love this series, and I can't get enough. It is going to be a long wait for the next book. If you haven't picked up this series, why? Get it now!
A Mother's Reckoning is a book that haunts me still. I wish I could convey in this review how much this book affected me. It is a book of terrible pain, heartbreak, loss and hopefully forgiveness. This is a book that we all should read in order to educate ourselves on mental illness and suicide. Sue Klebold is courageous and brave, and I truly hope that she finds peace after her painful journey.
Girl Against the Universe is a wonderful book. This is story about conquering fears and mental illness and letting go of the past. I loved watching the two main characters grow and transform, and I thought the romance was fantastic. This is an absolute must read if you are looking for a good YA contemp. I highly recommend this one. I found that I was wanting more when I reached the end. Don't miss this one!
Me Before You is one of those books that caught hold of me and touched my soul. It made me feel so many emotions. I laughed, I cried, I smiled and was reminded to grab hold of life and live it to the fullest, every single day. I am not a sappy, romantic type reader, and this certainly isn't that type of book. Instead it is a book that focuses on a life changing friendship and a life altering choice. Do yourself a favor and read the book because I know my words don't do the book justice. Read It! Enough said.
Walk On Earth a Stranger was an excellent historical read that follows one young girl, disguised as a boy, journeying west. I enjoyed the danger and adventure in this one. I couldn't put it down. The audiobook was fantastic. I highly recommend grabbing a copy of this one right away. I loved it!
Six of Crows is absolutely a book that meets and even exceeds expectations. This is a book with excellent world building, fascinating and exciting characters, and a story line that is riveting and full of surprises. The only thing that held this book back was the cliffhanger at the end, leaving the reader on the edge of their seat, wanting, no needing more. Don't miss this one.
The Curse of Tenth Grave was another exciting installment in a favorite long running series. I enjoyed the humor, the mystery and the revelations toward the larger picture, as well as the two smaller side mysteries. There is always plenty of laughs with a Charley Davidson book, and I don't know about you all, but I need more humor. Grab this series if you want something fun and entertaining.
Game On was a delightful read that snagged me with its engaging characters, serious topics, focus on sports, and a sweet best friend romance. If you are in a bit of a reading rut, this is one to try, it certainly put a smile on my face. I cannot wait to read more from this author!
The Hating Game was a fantastic, funny and dead sexy read. I devoured this one, and was left wanting more. I loved the antagonist romance, the humor and the sexual tension. This was Ms. Thorne's debut novel, and I am over the moon impressed with it. I cannot recommend this one enough.
Like a River Glorious was a sequel that lived up to its predecessor. I love the historical era, the action and danger, the pinch of magic and the many characters of different races that make up this wonderful, eclectic cast. If you want a thrilling series set during the California Gold Rush era, this is a terrific series to try. Don't hesitate for one minute thinking this is YA, it is sophisticated and informative, and it can be appreciated by readers of all ages.
It Ends With Us is another winner from the amazing Colleen Hoover. This is a book that takes on some tough stuff, and it will force you to rethink homelessness and domestic abuse. This is a novel that will make you feel as you experience the highs of falling in love and the pain of heartbreak and disappointment. I can go on and on about this book but I won't.
The Sinner is another thrilling installment in the Graveyard Queen Series. This series delivers plenty of thrills and chills, and if you like ghosts and graveyards, this is a series to check out. Be warned that this isn't a book to read alone in a dark house before bed. If you are looking for a terrifying read for the Fall season, don't miss this one.
