Welcome to Tell Me Something Tuesday. A weekly discussion post here on Rainy Day Ramblings where I discuss a wide range of topics from books to blogging. Weigh in and join the conversation by adding your thoughts in the comments. If you want to do your own post, grab the question and answer it on your blog.
Here is this week's question:
What are your book picks for Fall 2014?
I swear, I just did my picks for Summer a couple of weeks ago. I didn't have as many books on my Summer list as I do Fall. I love that Fall reads are all about the spooky and paranormal. There are so many awesome books coming out in the next couple of months. I hope you have saved some of your rainy day money.
Here are some of my top picks: (Click on the Covers for Details).
Young Adult:
Blood of My Blood(Jasper Dent #3) by Barry Lyga
I recently got around to listening to the Jasper Dent Series and while I wish I had read it sooner, I am glad that I waited as I don't have to suffer the long wait after the cliffhanger ending of Game. This really should be an adult series as it features one of the most frightening things haunting us all: Serial Killers. This is creepy and so chilling. I absolutely love the strong focus on nature vs. nurture.
Infinite Sea(Fifth Wave #2) by Rick Yancy
I devoured The Fifth Wave last summer. It was a terrifying tale of aliens invading Earth. We don't get too many alien books and this one was one of the best I have read. I can't wait to see what happens in the second book.
The Cure For Dreaming by Cat Winters
In the Shadow of Blackbirds was one of my favorite reads of 2013. I loved the era and the use of vintage photographs. Cat Winters returns with another tale about a hypnotist in 1900. This book is also infused with vintage photos and it takes place right here in Oregon.
Endsinger(Lotus War #3) by Jay Kristoff
All I can say is Mr. Kristoff you had better not tear my heart out, though I am afraid that is what is going to happen as he does not believe in happy endings. This is an amazing series, one of my favorites and I can't wait for the end. Another series that should be categorized as adult.
Chaos(Guards of the Shadowland #3) by Sarah Fine
Long time followers know that I completely fell in love with Fine's debut Sanctum back in 2012. If you have yet to experience the wonderful romance, captivating world building and terrific writing of Sarah Fine, I urge you to check out her books.
Mortal Heart(Grave Mercy #3) by Robin LaFevers
I admit, I dragged my feet reading Grave Mercy because that book was a notorious blogger slut back in 2012. However, I changed my mind when I listened to the audiobook last summer. This is such a strong, intelligent series featuring nuns who are female assassins. Aren't you curious about killer sisters?
Talon (Talon #1) by Julie Kagawa
Kagawa... need I say anything else? Okay, this is about dragons and I love a good dragon book. I am sure I will be in for a treat if Kagawa's world building is as excellent as it always is.
Blue Lily, Lily Blue(Dream Thieves #3) by Maggie Stiefvater
Another one of my favorite authors. I am in awe of Stiefvater's talent. This is an absorbing, complicated, rich tale featuring a group of boys and girl who will kill the boy she loves with her kiss. I can't wait to see what happens next.
New Adult:
I am not the biggest fan of contemporary New Adult, but this is a title I am very much looking forward to. I adore Cecy's Weird Girl Series, so I am curious to see what she does with the NA genre.
Adult:
Okay this is my blind pick of the bunch. I haven't read a book by French yet, but I have heard amazing things about her work and I am in the mood for a good psychological thriller. Any thoughts on this one?
The Witch With No Name(Hollows #13) by Kim Harrison
I actually have read this as I was lucky enough to get an ARC of this. It was hard to say goodbye to old friends. This is one of my favorite all time UF series. Love it! Get this one.
Seventh Grave and No Body (Charley Davidson #7 ) by Darynda Jones
This is another one of my all time favorite series. I adore Charley and her hilarious antics. Plus there are always lots of interesting ghosts, a good mystery and one sizzling hot Son of Satan: Reyes Farrow.
Prince Lestat(Vampire Chronicles #11) by Anne Rice
Anne Rice was my first introduction into adult paranormal/ urban fantasy books back in the nineties. I am a huge fan of Anne Rice and I am absolutely ecstatic that she is returning back to the series that made her famous. Could I please have this one now?
King! Enough said! This one sounds super creepy!
So that is my short list of must have reads. I am certain I have missed a few and I know I will be adding to this ever growing list. These are the books though that I will be reviewing without a doubt on my blog. Any thoughts? What are your must haves for Fall?
Next week's question:
Do you feel like if a book is priced for $.99 or even free that it is a lesser quality book?
